Hello Chapter Presidents and Trustees,

I am excited to be your new IPP chair for CISV USA.  IPP allows adults to learn while actively contributing to a local community. By partnering with a local organization, delegates participate in hands-on work involving a specific theme. They also share their local and national perspective on that theme with the other participants from around the world.

This e-mail is to inform you about new procedures and remind you of old ones as we gear up for the selection process.

Administration:

This year at NBM several of you voiced concerns to me about the amount of contact between IPP nationally and the chapters.  This is completely valid, since IPP participants apply to and are selected from the national level and in the past some, although unintentionally, have participated without their chapter knowing.  I understand that this is a concern and I have tried to remedy it in the process below for selection.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or suggestions.

Selection Calendar:

December 1st - Deadline for Applications and 2 References to be sent directly from Applicants to the National Chair via e-mail or mail

(We are taking the administrative duties out of it for you)

December 1  - January 15: Delegations selected by group from national committee comprised of prior IPP participants and staff.

Applications are reviewed by several people and the final decision is made together.

NOTE-THIS IS SOMETHING NEW!: Before participants are selected, we will contact the chapter president of the chapter listed on their application form to ensure that there have been no prior problems with the participant and that you are informed of their selection.  Please remember that IPP is a wonderful way to bring in new people, and this stage of the process is not for the chapter to have a hand in selection, but for you let us know of anything we should know and to have a chance to know who these new or old CISV are and that they have applied.

January 15th - Delegates informed of selection

February 15th - Final deadline for delegates to accept spot in delegation

A wait list will be formed of any who are not selected but remain interested and we will try to get an extra last minute invitation if there is sufficient interest.

Money

Fees are set at the national level and include international fees including insurance. We will notify all applicants that they must pay these fees to your chapter, as you will be billed from national for them. If you have trouble collecting them, please let me know and I will contact the applicant directly to see if another participant needs to be chosen.

Please note that it is customary that no fees be charged beyond these national fees and normal chapter membership dues. It is important that this be an affordable program for participants and we feel strongly that their experience will inspire them to give back to your chapter with their time and energy.

This year the fees are 118$ per participant.

So you want to know how to apply?! Great!

Attached to this e-mail is a flyer about the two projects we are invited to in Mozambique and the Philippines, as well as the application and reference forms. Please distribute them to any chapter members 19 and up who are interested.  Maybe you have always wanted to participate in a CISV program after seeing the effect it has had on your children's lives, or maybe your children grew up in CISV and are looking forward to getting involved again.  Best of all, this is a fantastic opportunity to bring someone into the CISV spirit as an adult even if they haven't had any connection to it before.

Again, the deadline is December 1st.  My e-mail and mailing address are below and I await many wonderful applications from your chapter.

E-mail me and check out www.cisv.org/ipp if you want more general information about IPP.

Thanks!  I look forward to working with all of you,
